Fallkniven - a Swedish family business

The Swedish knife manufacturer Fällkniven AB was founded in 1984 and started developing their own knives 3 years later. The knives are manufactured exclusively in Seki City - Japan, the sheaths are made in Europe. Fallkniven is now one of the official suppliers of the Swedish royal family. For most of the blades, the Swedes use laminated VG-10 steel (along with 420J2 steel) and also the powder metallurgy, laminated 3G with a cutting edge of SGPS (Super Gold Powder Steel). The shape of the blades is designed for everyday use, as they typically have a flat grind. Although the core range is traditionally tried and tested fixed knives, Fällkniven also has a range of folding knives with different locks in the range,

Fallkniven uses the following blade steels in its current range:

Lam. VG10 (HRC: 59)
VG10 is a Japanese blade steel which, when hardened and tempered correctly, results in a blade that is both tough and hard and virtually rustproof. Fallkniven has only used laminated blades for a long time, as these are a good 20% stronger than unlaminated blades. With a surface layer of 420J2 and a cutting edge of VG10, the result is a blade that is very strong and keeps its sharpness for a long time.

Laminated VG10 blade steel is used in:
NL1 (Tor), NL2 (Odin), NL3 (Njord), NL4 (Frej), NL5 (Idun), F1, F2, F3, F4, K1, K2, WM1, H1, S1, A1, A2

Lam. CoS (HRC: 60)
For some time, Fällkniven has also been using laminated cobalt steel (carbon = 1.1%; chromium = 16%; tungsten = 0.3%; molybdenum = 1.5%; vanadium = 0.3%; cobalt = 2.5%), which is surrounded on the outside by two layers 420J2. The blade has a Rockwell hardness of 60 and is therefore very durable. In addition, it is not prone to blade breakouts.

3G (HRC: 62)
Fallkniven is particularly well-known for its tried-and-tested 3G laminated powder steel. A large number of the models is therefore also available as a 3G version in addition to the "standard" Lam VG10. With this blade steel, powder-metallurgical SGPS (Super Gold Powder Steel) is surrounded by two layers of VG5.

Cowry X (HRC: 64)
The art of making Damascus steel is over a thousand years old. Forging layers of different steels together results in a blade that is not only beautiful but also strong. For this purpose, 120 layers of Damascus steel and a blade made of Cowry X powder steel (developed by Mr. Ichiro Hattori in Japan) are created.

Lam. SGPS (HRC: 62)
Fallkniven was the first to use hard-to-work SGPS (Super Gold Powder Steel) powder steel for a folding knife. Again, the SGPS is surrounded by two layers 420J2.
